Installing it the first time
The Windows installer isn’t code-signed, so Windows shows a warning before it runs:
- If your browser says the file “isn’t commonly downloaded”: open the download’s … menu › Keep › Show more › Keep anyway.
- Run the installer. On “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
- Finish the installer. Lesskeys starts in the tray, next to the clock.
If Windows 11 stops the installer and shows no Run anyway button, Smart App Control may be turned on. To check: Windows Security › App & browser control › Smart App Control settings. If it says On, you can turn it off there, then run the installer again. Microsoft says: “Recent Windows updates allow Smart App Control to be re-enabled without requiring a clean installation.” (Microsoft: Smart App Control FAQ).
