How to record Google Meet

Short answer

In Meet, the host selects Meeting tools, then Recording, and everyone gets a notification. Only some plans can record, so there is a second way as well.

A menu beside it lists Record the meeting and Transcribe, each with a lock, because Meet's own recording needs the right plan and the host's permission. Under the window a strip with a moving sound wave shows that Lesskeys hears the sound of the tab.

Can you record a Google Meet?

Yes, if you are the host or allowed to, your admin has turned it on and your plan includes recording: these Workspace editions, among others (Business Standard and up, Education Plus, Workspace Individual), or Google One with 2 TB or more. Select Meeting tools, then Recording.

Where do Google Meet recordings get saved?

In the organizer's Google Drive, in a folder named Google Meet with one sub-folder for each meeting. The organizer and the person who started the recording get an email with the link.

Meet notifies everyone when its own recording starts or stops. It cannot announce a recording made outside Meet, so tell the people on the call before you record one.

On the plans Google lists, yes: Meeting tools, then Transcribe, then Start transcription. It writes the spoken words to the organizer's Google Drive, in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish.
