How to record a Teams meeting with the Record button
- In the meeting controls, select More actions, then Record.
- Set the language and what to record (Audio only for sound).
- Select Confirm.
- To stop, select More actions, then Recording: choose Recording to end both, or Transcribing for the transcript only.
Who can record
Who can record, and who is told
Not everyone can record. Everyone is told.
The organizer and people from their own organization, with a license that includes recording and an admin who has switched it on. Guests, anonymous users and people from other organizations cannot. Button locked? Point at the lock: Microsoft lists the reasons.
Everyone gets a notification when recording starts, and another for transcription. Depending on your region you may need everyone's permission.

It goes to the organizer's storage, not to your computer.

OneDrive for Business and SharePoint, linked in the meeting chat.

By default only organizers and co-organizers can download or delete it.
Your admin sets how long.
After it expires, the owner has up to 90 days to restore it.

The Teams transcript
Recording starts it automatically.
Without a recording: More actions, then Transcribe (Teams for desktop only). Organizers and co-organizers can download it afterwards from Recap in the meeting chat.

To record and transcribe from the start, turn on Record and transcribe automatically in the meeting options, or transcribe the recording file on your computer.

Questions
Questions about recording a Teams meeting
Can you record a Teams meeting?
Yes. If your license and your admin's settings allow it, select More actions, then Record. Guests and people from other organizations cannot start a Teams recording.
Can I record a Teams meeting if I am not the organizer?
Yes, if you are from the organizer's organization, you have a license that includes recording, your admin has switched it on and the organizer has not restricted or turned off recording.
How long does Teams keep a recording?
That is set by your admin. The owner gets an email when a recording expires and has up to 90 days to restore it from the recycle bin. With a personal Teams account the recording lasts 30 days.
Does this work with personal Teams?
The steps are the same: More actions, then Start recording. Recording needs a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family or Premium subscription, only one person can record at a time, and the recording stops if the person who started it leaves.
