Plaud alternative: the computer you already own

Verdict

Plaud is a pocket recorder for conversations away from a computer; Lesskeys suits conversations on a Mac or PC you already own, with the audio kept there.

Illustration of two places. On the left a person walks with a pocket recorder clipped to their chest, away from any computer; its data goes up to a cloud. On the right you sit at the Mac or PC you already own, with a recording waveform and transcript lines on its screen, and the audio stays on it.
Illustration, not a screenshot. Per Plaud's own pages, its recorder devices send data to the cloud for processing, and Plaud Desktop (beta) can also capture from a Windows or macOS desktop with no bot.

Not for you?

What Lesskeys is not: a pocket recorder

Lesskeys is not a pocket recorder.

  • No wearable
  • No phone or web app
  • No AI summaries or templates

It records what plays on your computer and what its microphone hears. It does not capture a walk-and-talk when the computer is closed. Whisper can get names and rare words wrong, so check anything that matters.

Switching

Try one meeting on the computer you have

Record one meeting with Lesskeys instead of the recorder.

Lesskeys does not import Plaud recordings, but you can export audio files from your recorder and transcribe those.

Tell the people you record; some places require everyone's consent.

Questions

Questions about Plaud and Lesskeys

Is there a Plaud alternative with no subscription?

Lesskeys has no subscription and no minutes plan. Plaud sells a device and plans with monthly minutes; its dated plans are in the table.

Do I need to buy any hardware to replace Plaud?

No. Lesskeys uses the Mac or Windows PC you already own: its microphone for in-person audio, and the computer's sound for calls and meetings.

Can Lesskeys record an in-person conversation?

Yes, through your computer's microphone, with speaker labels. It suits interviews and meetings at a desk. For recording on the move without a computer, a hardware recorder is the better shape.
