Dictation for writers: draft by voice on your computer

Short answer

A writer uses Lesskeys to say a draft instead of typing it, paste it into any editor, and turn research interviews into text. The speech is turned into text on your computer, so an unpublished manuscript is not uploaded.

Illustration: a writer in a beret says a paragraph out loud. A sound wave shows the speech, and the words land one by one on a manuscript sheet headed Chapter 3, under an earlier paragraph. The text is a made-up sample, not from a real book.
Sample text, not from a real book. You read and rework every draft.

Draft by voice

Three things a writer does with it

Say the paragraph first, shape it on the page after.

  1. Say a draft out loud.

Say a paragraph, then paste the text into any app that takes pasted text.

  2. Catch a stray idea.

Dictate it into your notes app. A text replacement fixes a name that keeps coming out wrong.

  3. Transcribe a research interview.

Record a call (no bot joins) or add a file. Speaker labels; play from a line to hear the quote.

A first draft

A spoken draft is a first draft

It writes down what you say. It does not write or rephrase.

Invented names and unusual words can come out wrong, and what you dictate lands as plain text.

Questions

Questions about Lesskeys for writers

Can I dictate a book or an article?

Yes. Say it, paste the text and edit it. Lesskeys writes down what you say in 99 languages; it does not write or edit the prose.

Does my manuscript get uploaded anywhere?

No. The speech is turned into text on your computer and is not uploaded, and no account is needed. The text goes where you paste it.

Does it work in my writing app?

In any app that takes pasted text. Lesskeys is not tied to one editor and has no plug-in, and we have not tested each editor one by one.

Can it transcribe interviews for a book?

Yes. Add a recording, or record a call on your computer, and Lesskeys transcribes it with speaker labels. Check a quote against the audio before you print it.
