Private interview transcription for journalists, offline

Short answer

Turn an interview recording into a transcript with speaker labels on your own computer, so the audio is not uploaded. You still check every quote against the recording before it goes into a piece.

Illustration of an interview in another language. A source speaks Spanish and a speech bubble shows the words. On a laptop the transcript writes the same words in Spanish, with a label on each speaker, a Spanish detected tag and a play button on the source's line. A badge with a crossed-out cloud says the audio stays on this laptop. The words are an invented sample.
Sample interview, invented words. The transcript is in the language that was spoken. Check names and quotes against the audio.

Three jobs

What a journalist does with it

  1. Transcribe an interview or a field recording.

Speaker labels, and the language is detected among 99.

    99 languages
  2. Record a video-call interview.

No bot joins. Name a regular source once and Lesskeys can recognise the voice later.

  3. Check a quote before you print it.

Play the recording from the line, hear the words, then copy the quote.

Works with MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, MP4, MOV and M4V files. Convert other formats first.

Other languages

An interview in another language

Lesskeys detects the language among 99 and writes what was said in that language.

The transcript is in the language that was spoken: Spanish speech gives a Spanish transcript. Accuracy differs between languages, so have someone who speaks it check names and quotes.

Source audio

Source audio stays on your computer

Turned into text on your computer, not uploaded.

That is one step. What protects a source is how you handle the computer, its backups and anything that syncs its folders. Lesskeys makes no promise about source protection.

The recording

The recording is the evidence

Names, places and unusual terms can come out wrong.

Speaker labels can be wrong when people talk over each other. You set how many people spoke (2 by default).
