Session notes by voice — nothing leaves your Mac
Notes are the unpaid hour of every clinical day. Lesskeys lets you dictate progress notes in the minutes between clients and transcribe supervision recordings — with every word processed and stored on your own Mac, not on someone's server.

Why cloud transcription is a hard sell in therapy
Session audio and clinical notes are among the most sensitive records anyone keeps. Every cloud dictation or transcription service adds a third party that touches that material — a vendor to vet, an agreement to maintain, a breach surface that isn't yours to control. Lesskeys removes the question instead of answering it: recognition runs on your Mac's own chip, audio and transcripts stay in local files, and nothing is uploaded. There is no vendor on the other end. It's not a certified compliance product and doesn't claim to be — it changes the architecture so there's one less processor to account for. Confirm your specific obligations with your compliance advisor.
Dictate progress notes between sessions
Press the global hotkey (default ⌥ Space), say the note, and the transcript lands on your clipboard — press ⌘V to drop it into your notes app or an EHR field in the browser. SOAP, DAP, BIRP — the format is yours; you're just replacing typing with speaking. A five-minute gap between clients is enough for a finished note.
Transcribe supervision and training recordings
Recordings of supervision, consultation groups, or your own training tapes can be transcribed locally with automatic speaker labels, so you can revisit who said what without re-listening to the hour. Files never leave the machine; the transcript sits next to the recording in a local library.
What about recording sessions themselves?
That's a clinical and legal decision, not a software one: record clients only with informed consent and within your jurisdiction's rules and your professional body's guidance. Many therapists use Lesskeys without recording sessions at all — dictated notes and supervision material alone repay it.
A working setup for a clinical week
- Dictate the note — hotkey, speak, ⌘V into your notes system, between clients while it's fresh.
- Transcribe supervision — drop the recording in; speaker labels separate supervisor and supervisee.
- Keep it local — recordings and transcripts live in folders on your Mac, covered by the same disk encryption and backups you already run.
- Search instead of re-listening — find the phrase you remember across transcripts in the local library.

FAQ
Is Lesskeys HIPAA compliant?
Lesskeys doesn't make compliance claims — no app alone can make your practice compliant. What it changes is architecture: audio and transcripts are processed and stored only on your Mac and nothing is uploaded, so there is no transcription vendor handling client material. Confirm your specific obligations with your compliance advisor.
Can I dictate directly into my EHR or notes app?
Yes — dictate with the global hotkey and the transcript is placed on your clipboard; press ⌘V to paste it into any EHR field or notes app, in the browser or on the desktop.
Can I record therapy sessions with it?
Only with your client's informed consent and within your jurisdiction's rules and professional guidance. Many therapists use Lesskeys solely for dictated notes and supervision recordings, which involve no client-session recording at all.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the one-time speech-model download, dictation and transcription run fully offline — airplane mode included.
